Roxane Assaf is Director of Teaching and Learning Programs for the "Studio Classroom Project" at Truman College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. The studio classroom aims to create an organic learning experience like that in an art studio, using computers in the classroom, multimedia teaching tools, the Internet and other types of technology-based learning support. Roxane is also adjunct faculty in communication at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago specializing in media coverage of the Middle East. She lived and worked in Bethlehem in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian West Bank and in Jerusalem as freelance correspondent to the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs magazine. There she also worked as editor/project developer for numerous NGOs. Roxane has her MSJ from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, in the completion of which she was a Washington correspondent for newspaper, radio and television news outlets. Roxane presents regularly on subjects relating to mass media, the Middle East, human rights, social justice, and teaching with technology. She is a native of New Orleans and graduate of Loyola New Orleans. She mourns the loss of her childhood home a half-block from the 17th Street Canal levee breach following Hurricane Katrina.
